The great outdoors awaits keen fisherman Jordan
In December iCare had the pleasure of visiting the home of 18-year-old Jordan McIlrath from Cullybackey, Co Antrim to grant a Wish.
Having been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in August of 2017. Jordan spent the next four months in hospital receiving Chemotherapy, his mum Jacqueline said that during this tough time, Jordan remained his usual positive self. Jordan’s friends visited him in hospital every week keeping him up to date with the latest news and craic.
Whilst receiving treatment in the City Hospital, Belfast Jordan and his family were able to use the facilities at Amy’s House in Belfast. Amy’s House offers free accommodation and much needed support for families while a young person undergoes cancer treatment. This and this is where the family held Jordan’s 18th birthday celebrations.
Having finished Chemotherapy, Jordan was able to spend Christmas at home with his family while they waited for news of funding to receive a new antibody treatment. Just days before Christmas, Jordan received the good news that he would begin the treatment in the New Year, which he is currently receiving. He will then undergo a bone marrow transplant in March. Jordan’s younger sister Danielle underwent the bone marrow donation process and has been successfully matched as a donor.
Jordan’s aunt Joaleen McGuckin initially contacted iCare having heard about our Wish initiative to see if the Charity could help brighten Jordan’s day by granting a Wish. She explained that Jordan loves fishing, being outdoors and camping. Joaleen knew that Jordan would appreciate a new tent so that he can go out camping with his friends, something to look forward to in the warmer months. Jordan is thrilled with his new camping gear as are his friends!
iCare was delighted to be able to support this lovely family and we wish Jordan all the very best for his treatment and we look forward to hearing about plenty of successful fishing trips in the future.
