Like many of our iCare wishes, we aim to bring a smile throughout the community, a smile which can so often be needed through challenging circumstances. The most recent iCare Wish that has been granted was for little school girl Cora and fulfilling her hope of attending her Primary 7 end of year school trip. A number of years ago, Cora and her family, who were sadly involved in a heart-breaking road traffic accident found their lives spiral into an oblivion without any warning or expectation. As a result of the crash, Cora acquired a brain injury and the family lost their father during the collision.
Cora’s school in Downpatrick has organised an end of year trip to Scotland in June costing £300, unaffordable to the family but with thanks to iCare, Cora is now able to attend. HCIL hosted a pancake morning in their offices in Milford on Pancake Tuesday where an amazing £400 was raised for the family. iCare was able to donate a further £200 to the total, which allows Cora to attend her school trip, helped to purchase grocery vouchers for the family and small gifts for Cora and her siblings who were also involved in the accident. Cora, like so many other girls her age has been blessed with an amazing imagination and was delighted to receive her unicorn themed gifts from iCare representative Laura McDonald.
The wishes granted by iCare aim to highlight that in anyone’s time of need, there is always an outstretched hand, willing to help and share the burden. iCare and HCIL would like to thank Linwood’s and Raffles for donating the pancakes that were enjoyed at the fundraising morning and local sponsors who contributed prizes for the raffle, which has played a huge role in granting another iCare Wish for the community.
